Is your California Buffalograss lawn coming out of dormancy and looking a bit shabby? Maybe a quick mowing is in order to knock off the old and bring out the new!
In the above photo, is the brown area at the top half unmowed? What a difference mowing makes.
Yup that’s exactly right! When spring rolls around and the new grass begins to come in, the old dormant grass can just sort of sit on top of it. Sometimes a fresh mowing is all you need to spruce it up!
Be prepared to get a LOT of grass clippings. The old dead stuff is thick and curly like buffalo hairs. It composts really well.
I had to mow in three passes (high, medium and extra short) to get through it. But it won’t need mowing again until next year 🙂
